CIRa organizes fundraising campaigns or events on annual basis for causes that raise general support by the public.
Following the needs in the community, in September 2009 CIRa participated in the campaign named “To continue the life” for creation of a Fund for procurement of the medical equipment that supports the system for application of the cytostatic therapy to people living with cancer. This campaign was organized in cooperation with the public health institution “Clinic for Oncology and Radiology” Skopje, Fashion Company “Elena Luka” and Macedonian Television MTV1.
Within the campaign CIRa with its partners organized large fashion show in Universal Hall in Skopje on November 30, 2009. This show was directly broadcasted on the first channel of the Macedonian Television. During 3 hours show, around 70 prominent women from Macedonia along with members of the diplomatic core took the actas models, wearing the newest collection of luxurious dresses that were auctioned during the event. These dresses were created by the designers of Elena Luka Fashion House. Parallel to the fashion show, the telethon took place in the backstage. The public was provided the opportunity to donate 100 mkd to the initiative by making one phone call to thee number 143-404. The women that participated in the fashion show were also answering the phones in the telethon, sharing their gratitude with the callers.
Around 14.000 Euros were raised from the tickets that were sold for the event, auction of dresses and the telethon. Approximately, 4500 citizens and 5 companies have donated and supported the initiative. As a result of the Campaign, the reconstruction of the air-conditioning system in the room for application of the cytostatic therapy in the Clinic for Radiology and Oncology in Skopje was completed by the end of 2010.
Starting from September -December 2008, CIRa along with The “First Children Embassy in the World Medgjashi” organized the “Campaign for Creation of a Fund for Support of Sexually Abused Children and Youth”. What we saw as a call for our immediate responsiveness was the increasing number of sexually abused children and the
lack of support by the governmental institutions in the first 72 hours after the abuse. Only in the first half of 2008, more than 50 cases of sexual abuse were reported, with experts and the Ministry of interior estimating that the number is even higher and that each year more than 1000 children and youth are being sexually abused.
In the first two months of the Campaign, most of the activities have been focused to raise the public awareness and increase their knowledge the importance and sensitivity of the problem.
Mr. Aleksandar Masevski, composer donated a song entitled “Dream Peacefully” written especially for the purpose of the campaign. The song was recorded by 20 most popular Macedonian singers, who also participate in the music clip that was produced for this song.
More than 100 celebrities gave their contribution and participated in the Telethon that was broadcasted on the first channel of the Macedonian National Television on November 23, 2008. More than 30 companies have donatedtheir products and supported the organization of this fundraising event. Public responsiveness and received calls on the open telephone line for donations, has shown that the Macedonian citizens are very much concerned about this societal problem and willing to contribute to our activities. With each call they were able to donate 100 denars in the Fund by calling the special telephone number 143-404. Special part of the Telethon was the public auction of different personal items donated by the Macedonian celebrities - supporters of the Campaign. As the result of this event, 185.400 denars along with several donations in services and goods were raised for support of the victims of sexual abuse and their families.

In the second half of December the Campaign was continued with series of special events in the Ramstore Shopping Mall. For 18 days, CIRa staff and volunteers accompanied with the celebrities were approaching individuals and discussed about the issue of sexual abuse. All visitors in the mall have been asked to give donation for the Fund by which they had an opportunity to participate in the Donator’s Lottery. On December 31st, we draw the lucky winners for the Lottery and ended up the First part of the Campaign.
Each activity, from September to December was associated with a public conference and press release. Seventeen media companies have been r active supporters in the process. Moreover, CIRa tends to be fully transparent to the public and in this regard regularly updated its web page with new information related to the campaign.
From all activities that have been implemented as a part of this Campaign, 310.000 denars or around 5.000 EUR were raised. These funds were disbursed following a public call for applications for small grants and were used for direct support of 5 victims of sexual abuse (legal aid, psycho-social assistance to the victims, assistance and support to victims for integration in the community). Along with the direct support to the victims, funding was provided to 2 projects of the civic organizations: Association of Social Workers from the City of Skopje and “Golemi i mali”.
Association of social workers from the City of Skopje conducted 6 educational workshops with the children that live in the SOS Children village covering different topics as children’s rights, ways of recognizing the sexual abuse and protection from it, communication skills for the children and ways to express their feelings, good and moral behaviour etc. n. With the given grant, CSO “Golemi i mali” created the first website against sexual abuse: www.stoppedofilija.org.mk with volunteer engagement of social workers and psychologists that have committed to provide an on-line support (live chat) about all questions regarding the sexual abuse.
In 2007 under the general campaign “Equal Opportunities for All” CIRa organized 2 fundraising events:
For the Spring Day, CIRa started the initiative for creation of Fund for Equal Sport Opportunities for all Children. With a generous support of the President of the Republic of Macedonia, silent auction of donated gifts by the CSOs and individuals like books, vases, decorations, jewellery and children drawings etc was organized in the Park of Tolerance in Skopje. Most of donators were part of the diplomatic core in Republic of Macedonia such as the Ambassador of United States, Ambassador of the Republic of Montenegro, Ambassador of Switzerland etc but there were also members from the CSOs as well as ordinary citizens. As the result of the campaign 730 EUR were raised. These funds were donated to the Special Olympics of Macedonia. Donation has been used for purchase of sport equipment for the children with special needs.
In the light of the NGO fair in November 2007, CIRa staff in partnership with several NGO’s dealing with the Roma issues has run a Campaign for creation of the Fund for books and school materials for Roma children. This campaign has ended up with a Raffle (charitable lottery) organized on the NGO fair. Every donator that has donated money in the donation boxes on the fair has received a lottery ticket for participation in the lottery on which he had a chance to suggest some Primary school with dominant Roma students as a recipient of the donation. Lottery winners received a basket of gifts and pre-paid service vouchers donated by individuals, companies, NGOs and even Local self-governments. From the lottery we have raised in total 74 678 denars or around 1200 EUR. It was motivating to see that after the special event the interest for donation in the Fund has raised and each day we have been surprised by a new donation on the Fund bank account. The total funds raised during the campaign were around 10.500 EUR.
